GUIDELINES FOR BOOK AND OTHER MATERIAL DONATIONS TO THE FRIENDS OF THE BEDFORD LIBRARY

As always, the Friends welcome your donation of books for our On-Going Book Sale and our fallwinter and spring sales. Book donations are the lifeblood of our fund-raising efforts. Books are accepted year round and can be brought to either the Library Services desk or if multiple boxes are being delivered please bring them to the loading dock at Bedford Central Library and ring the doorbell during regular library hours. Book donations should only be left when the library is OPEN.  Please do not leave books at the front door of the library.

The Friends appreciate your donations. For any future donations, please help our staff and volunteers who sort them by observing the following guidelines.

We gratefully accept:

• Hardcover and paperback fiction and non-fiction in good condition
• Clean, undamaged copies of “classic” titles and award winners
• CDs and DVDs commercially published
• Puzzles (please secure boxes with tape and note if any pieces are missing)
• Audio books on CD

• Children’s hardcover and paperback books in good condition

A few pointers about what NOT to donate: We don’t like to think that we have limits, but some items are simply not appealing to the Friends’ Book sale clientele for a variety of reasons, and all donations require volunteer time to sort and space to shelve and store – both of which are precious resources, always in short supply. You can help! Use these guidelines to sort, weed and discard inappropriate materials before donating to the Friends.

 PLEASE DO NOT DONATE:

• Magazines
• Special edition magazines or newspapers
• encyclopedias
• Coloring books, activity books
• High school or college annuals or year books
• 8-track tapes
• VHS tapes
• Cassette tapes
• Homemade CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes Please note: For legal reasons, we do not accept homemade copies of any type of media or commercial software that is not packaged with a book.
• Catalogs
• Toys, games, picture frames, diaries, journals, figurines, cups, greeting cards, etc. any items not listed in the what we accept list

 PLEASE CHECK YOUR DONATIONS

• Finally, before you donate a book, hold on to the spine and shake each book gently. Very often people leave things in books and forget about them — important things like receipts with banking numbers, personal photographs, greeting cards with handwritten messages, and even cash. Please check before you donate.
